Engineering Manager, Physical Design

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in SOC physical design and 3 years of relevant management experience.
  • Experience with physical design methodologies and tool flows.
  • Experience leveraging EDA tools and scripting for design optimization and problem resolution, ensuring designs meet performance and quality requirements.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to evolving design changes, and ensuring on-time delivery of physical design milestones.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in the physical design of custom or semi-custom datapaths tailored for HPC applications.
  • Expertise in implementing and optimizing PnR strategies, with experience in managing congestion and routing challenges inherent to HPC designs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industry best practices and methodologies in physical design, with ability to adapt and implement them for optimal results in complex SOCs.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with EDA tool vendors and technology leaders, influencing tool development and ensuring access to technologies crucial for HPC designs.
  • Ability to survey and analyze industry trends and emerging technologies focusing on architectures and design implications.

Drive the physical realization of cutting-edge subsystems that power Google's critical technical infrastructure. As a Physical Design Manager, you will lead a high-performing team through the complete project lifecycle, from initial concept and planning to fabrication readiness. You will orchestrate complex projects, ensuring seamless execution across all physical design disciplines, including Floorplanning, Place and Route, Static Timing Analysis, EM/IR analysis, Physical Verification, and Logic Equivalence Checking. Beyond project delivery, you'll be a pivotal mentor, fostering career growth and providing strategic guidance to your team.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end physical design of complex subsystems, from initial floorplanning and placement to final sign-off, ensuring adherence to project schedules and quality standards.
  • Lead critical analyses including Static Timing Analysis (STA), Power/EMIR analysis, and Physical Verification, proactively identifying and resolving design bottlenecks to meet performance, power, and area targets.
  • Partner with logic design, architecture, and other engineering teams to ensure integration of physical design solutions, resolving dependencies and aligning on design specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance to physical design engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and growth.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices and innovative methodologies in physical design, contributing to the development of efficient workflows and tool flows to enhance productivity and design quality.
