About the job

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage various Engineering-specific programs and teams.

This leadership role is responsible for driving the strategic direction and operational maturity of a distributed, cross-functional organization.

In this role, you will balance complex program delivery with the long-term evolution of the ecosystem. This position requires a unique blend of organizational design and technical diplomacy, as you will be responsible for delivery of key Google and Code wide objectives while ensuring that the underlying team structures are resilient enough to support large-scale growth. You are expected to act as a team multiplier, identifying systemic bottlenecks before they impact delivery and fostering a culture of excellence, data-driven execution across a global footprint.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a high-performing team of Technical Program Managers, including executive-level individual contributors.
  • Design and implement operating models to streamline outcome delivery. Move beyond execution to refine how the organization functions to maximize efficiency.
  • Partner with leaders to manage the continued growth of the ecosystem.
  • Drive a distributed cross-functional (XFN) organization responsible for Core and Google-level Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Lead complex programs with authority, balancing resourcing, prioritization, and XFN decision-making.
