About the job

Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at Google. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem.

You develop a variety of communications for internal and external audiences including manuals and documentation, working on multiple projects at once.

In this role, you will own a set of product features related to an operable component of the Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) airgapped product. These components include product areas such as Storage, Containers, Security, etc.

You will regularly meet stakeholders to understand the current and future state of the product, planning to ensure our documentation is both comprehensive and accurate, as well as understanding of our customers needs. You will combine these to create and maintain technical documentation that allows our customers to find success with the product.

You will join a collaborative team of writers who work together to solve technical problems while providing quality documentation to customers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $84,000-$123,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write technical documentation for developers including concept documents, how-to guides, and Application programming interface (API) reference documents.
  • Design and organize documentation sets for new features.
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
  • Manage complex documentation projects, and take responsibility for the quality of your documentation.
  • Act as documentation release manager on a rotational basis, leveraging tools to build, verify and publish Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) to development site and as an archive within the product itself.
