Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
- 5 years of experience with ML design and ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- Experience in building data pipelines for machine learning, including with JAX, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Experience with distributed training and performance computing, including GPUs or TPUs.
- Understanding distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Apache Beam, Ray) and their application to Machine Learning workloads.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Core Machine Learning(ML) Frameworks team, you will be an architect and implementer of performance data pipelines for JAX, ensuring optimal data delivery and utilization across Google's Machine Learning ecosystem. You will bring an opinionated yet collaborative approach to designing, developing, and optimizing data ingestion and pre processing solutions, with a focus on maintainability and scalability. Working across organizational boundaries, you will understand and be sensitive to the user requirements of our partner teams (Ads, YouTube, Search, etc.), delivering solutions that empower their ML initiatives.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Build and maintaining performance, data input pipeline APIs and infrastructure, primarily for the JAX ecosystem and extending to other ML frameworks.
- Architect data ingestion and pre-processing solutions that handle datasets from sources and formats for various hardware accelerators.
- Collaborate with ML researchers and engineers (internal and external) to understand their data needs and deliver solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement of data pipeline performance and usability through research, prototyping, rigorous testing, and comprehensive documentation.
- Ensuring compatibility and addressing bottlenecks as the JAX and other ML frameworks ecosystem evolve.
