Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in management consulting or other equivalent business strategy experience.
  • Experience in analytics.

Preferred qualifications:

  • CFA or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience using SQL for data extraction and manipulation, and building reporting dashboards.
  • Experience with the retail/ecommerce or advertising sector, working in or covering as an analyst or consultant.
  • Experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions or Corp Dev teams at leading technology firms, research, management consulting, corporate strategy, or a similar environment including project management.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and solve problems.

About the job

The Central Finance Market Intelligence (CFMI) team is a financial research team within the broader Knowledge and Information Finance organization. In this role, you will research external comps and provide landscape overviews, addressable markets, and value chain analysis to inform product and vertical development. You will also develop external benchmarking and staples to provide context to internal performance KPIs, leveraging government, industry, third-party analytics, and custom data.

You'll be a key member of a cross-functional team, including Product, Engineering, Business Development and other Finance colleagues, identifying opportunities and benchmarking performance for Google. You will build a comprehensive external and internal view of the evolving ads and commerce sector, both online and offline. You will also help build and drive improvements to a set of consumer-facing products as you develop knowledge of the market dynamics and economics.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $118,000-$170,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Support the Search, Assistant, Ads, Geo, Commerce, Payments, and NBU teams as a subject matter expert on external industry sector economics, ecommerce industry trends, and market dynamics in relation to the Retail and Ads ecosystems.
  • Conduct research and market analysis on the Retail sector (including physical retail and e-commerce) leveraging public filings, third-party research and internal data; translate these into detailed financial models and insights for executive audiences.
  • Develop sector health metrics staples (e.g., KPIs, earnings analysis, reliable data sources, etc.) for key markets and communicate this to executive audiences.
  • Leverage financial understanding of external market and ecosystem dynamics to advise on strategic partnership, mergers and acquisitions opportunities, and product strategy.
  • Leverage external analysis to support new business case and investment prioritization across multiple industry verticals.
