Senior Firmware Engineer, Network, Cellular Protocol

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java, Rust).
  • Experience in cellular modem software development or protocol stack engineering (e.g., LTE, New Radio (NR), or IoT).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with 3GPP protocol layers (e.g., RRC, NAS, MAC, RLC, PDCP, or PHY).
  • Experience with RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems) in embedded environments.
  • Experience on modem function and performance troubleshooting in lab, field and carrier tests.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP Release 17+ (e.g., IoT-NTN or NR-NTN).

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $163,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Solve complex system-level problems related to high mobility, high latency and doppler frequency compensation, inherent in satellite-based cellular networks. Improve Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) user experience, including but not limited to call, voice quality, data, thermal or power, connectivity.
  • Identify key performance scenarios and recreate the scenario in the lab environment for further research and development for more optimized solutions. Work with test teams to define validation strategies and root-cause issues found during lab testing with satellite emulators and field trials.
  • Debug, analyze and fix modem issues from factory, certification (e.g., Global Certification Forum (GCF)/PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB)/Internet of Things (IoT)), field and end users.
  • Work with vendors and solution providers on modem protocol design and optimization.
