Optical Sensors Engineer, Health

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working on sensor design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of optical systems.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: optical simulations, hardware and sensor design (e.g., prototyping new sensors and development platforms to enable capturing novel and interesting measurements for our users.), system-level sensor tolerance modeling, analysis, and optimization.
  • Comfortable rapidly prototyping hardware and experimental setups.

About the job

The Sensors Engineering team is at the forefront of creating and bringing to market cutting-edge sensing systems for Google's Consumer Hardware. They innovate by taking a holistic view, transforming new technologies into products for everyone. In this role, you'll collaborate across teams to shape the technical vision, choosing and refining sensor technologies to enable groundbreaking user experiences. The Watch and Tracker Health sensing team focuses on pioneering, designing, validating, and integrating PPG, ECG, and EMG sensors.

You'll advance optical sensing in wearables by conceptualizing and developing ideas into finished products, and annually enhancing Google's wearable optical sensors. You'll prototype hardware, analyze sensor data, and design experiments, involving hardware and human-centric testing. In addition, you will collaborate with TechEng specialists to work on challenges and contribute to product launches with other Google engineering teams.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design wearable optical prototypes for new health sensing applications.
  • Perform optical benchtop testing, debugging and root case analysis.
  • Perform human trial experiments and signal analysis.
  • Perform rapid prototyping, optical testing, and optical/physiological signal analysis.
  • Drive sensors through product development cycles.
