About the job

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, business award, contracting, and commercial negotiations with external manufacturing partners for final product assembly, test and packing. Moreover, you will contribute to cross-project and cross-team collaborations of moderate to high complexity and scope, providing impact through the quality, accuracy, timeliness, and volume of your work. This will help maintain strategic partnerships that enable and expand the Wearables portfolio.

You will collaborate closely with Sourcing colleagues, Program Management, Engineering, Operations, Planning, Finance, Legal and other teams to execute partnership strategies and program requirements. You will then contribute to the partnership framework from start to finish by engaging with potential partner candidates, building consensus, negotiating all costs and agreements, and ensuring that manufacturing partners deliver results. In short, you will serve as a liaison between suppliers or vendors and internal stakeholders.

Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Contract Manufacturer (CM)/Joint Development Manufacturer (JDM) strategy and implement supplier management processes with critical partners.
  • Manage the implementation of Request For (X) processes for sourcing needs and own the agreement creation process.
  • Manage assigned Contract Manufacturers to program requirements in cost, quality, schedule, and technology areas.
  • Develop cost models of mechanical parts Costed Bill of Materials (cBOM) and product assemblies(MVA) and lead negotiations from inception to contracting phase, driving continuous cost optimization.
  • Support engineering and operations escalations, and report on cost performance and supply chain risk.
