Engineering Analyst, Google Ads, Trust and Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with abuse/fraud detection or web security research.
  • 2 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data, using SQL or Python for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis of datasets.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience managing projects and defining project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Experience in one of the following areas: deriving actionable insights, root-causes and intelligence from data sources, rolling out security policies, measuring and communicating impact, cyber security, protecting accounts against any form of cyber threat; or using data analysis, to resolve problems, processes or operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

In this role, you will work with a team of analysts that assess and address threats against Google Ads accounts in the hijacking and scaled abuse space. You will identify and solve complex problems at scale and have strong investigative, technical and security skills. You will also work closely with engineering and product teams to make sure that you can quickly adapt our products and defenses against new threat vectors, to ensure a safe experience for users and advertisers. You will build, leverage and evaluate models and operations to solve cyber security and abuse problems.

We partner with teams across Google to deliver bold solutions in abuse areas such as malware, spam and account hijacking. A team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed and actionable qualitative and quantitative understanding of the Ads account takeover and scaled abuse threat landscape, including designing and improving additional data collection, processes and quality measures.
  • Design and build early warning alerts for novel and changing threats.
  • Provide and apply our intelligence to respond to new adversarial campaigns or actors. Manage the response to incidents aiming Google Ads accounts.
  • Work with vendor teams to scale operational work to protect Google Ads accounts. Provide training and work with Ads Safety on tooling improvements when needed.
  • Review graphic, controversial, and offensive content as well as on-call schedules outside of working hours, including weekends/holidays.
