Manufacturing Test Development Engineer, Optics

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in Product Engineering or Test Engineering.
  • Experience developing and integrating manufacturing test hardware using custom optics, electronics, fixturing, and instrumentation.
  • Experience with python and shell script and, with object oriented software development in Linux.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related technical field.
  • Experience setting up manufacturing assembly processes, driving product launches and assembly process optimization within manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with optical measurement tools (e.g., power meter, switches, variable optical attenuator (VOA), optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) and wavelength meters)
  • Experience working with server, storage, and networking products.
  • Experience working with optical connectors, fibers and ribbons including cleaning and inspecting.

Google's custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver infrastructure.

As a Manufacturing Test Engineer, you will develop, enhance and sustain manufacturing test processes, tools and procedures for manufacturing operation of products to be deployed at Google Data Center. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you will be right there alongside ensuring manufacturing test processes are repeatable and controlled. You will collaborate with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, Design Engineers and Quality Engineers to drive continuous improvements to products and manufacturing processes. You will ensure Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $134,000-$198,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Build, scale and sustain Optical Circuit Switch (OCS) test platforms for Google's global manufacturing partners.
  • Partner with the NPI and Engineering teams to define design for test (DFT) requirements and provide input to Manufacturing Test Strategy for OCS products.
  • Provide caliber Manufacturing Test Engineering support (Software and Hardware) for new and existing OCS products. Drive test optimization initiatives to improve test process efficiencies, improve test coverage, and reduce cost.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and root cause manufacturing yield issues and field escapes. Drive issues to closure with preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with internal engineers and partner engineers to drive test improvement and test issues or bug resolution. Drive test changes to improve product quality and yield.
