Distinguished Engineer, Cloud Security Platform

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in distributed systems architecture and systems integration.
  • Experience with product security, security engineering or software assurance.
  • Experience in distributed computing systems, including highly reliable/redundant systems, high performance systems, high security/classified systems, privacy sensitive systems, or globally scaled systems using multiple stacks.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Industry knowledge about the state-of-the-art in Identity and Security across multiple Cloud Providers and Security Vendors.
  • Understanding of large-scale systems design, architectural patterns, and development processes at scale.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new architectures, designs, development languages, and frameworks.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and drive consensus across many Fellows, VPs, DE/PEs, TLs, engineers, managers, and executives inside and outside Cloud.
  • Strong distributed systems and security fundamentals.

About the job

As the Distinguished Engineer you will define and drive the technical vision for Platform Security and Identity-Based Security Controls at Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will provide technical leadership to an organization of engineers, focusing on critical security domains: GCP and Technical Infra Identity and Access Management, Identity-Based Perimeter Controls, Zero Trust, Identity-Based Threat Detection, and all aspects of Production Security. You'll collaborate with Product Areas Fellows, Distinguished Engineers (DEs), and Principal Engineers (PEs) to revolutionize security strategies across multiple Product Areas, identifying horizontal efficiencies and ensuring long-term strategic alignment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in the Customer Visible and Technical Infra Platform Security Engineering domain for Google Cloud.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives and frameworks to facilitate significant improvements and differentiation in Platform security across GCP.
  • Influence the design and development of Platform Security and Identity-based security controls to maintain a strong differentiated position with respect to the industry.
  • Partner with technical stakeholders responsible for the security of Google and Google Cloud to increase accountabilities for security outcomes. Work across GCP to propose solutions to common security problems and address technical security issues that arise in GCP and lower-level Technical Infra.
  • Influence without direct authority at all levels of Google, particularly at the most senior technical leaders (especially VPs, Fellows, DE/PE community) of Cloud and GCP.
