Manager, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience working on technology policy issues within state and local government.
  • 10 years of experience running campaigns either in the political or corporate environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working on public policy issues in the technology industry as an advisor and partner to business teams in product development, go-to-market, and other business areas.
  • Experience in policy and political issues relating to technical infrastructure (e.g., data centers), IaaS products, PaaS products, and SaaS products.
  • Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, and understand and communicate business and policy implications to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of executing cross-functional projects.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Cloud team works with the Google Cloud and Google Public Sector product areas to advise on public policy issues. We work closely with product and business teams to minimize risk and increase opportunity for success and growth. Our team's mission is to help Google, governments, and civil society responsibly navigate the social, political and economic issues.

In this role, you will develop and execute global strategic policy campaigns, and support Google Cloud stakeholders for our Government Affairs and Public Policy efforts.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Research key policy areas where Google Cloud's expertise aligns with government priorities and curate compelling resources that showcase Google Cloud's value proposition in the public sector, emphasizing in driving digital transformation and innovation.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with regional Cloud GAPP, other GAPP teams and Cloud Legal on product, compliance, regulatory, and legal initiatives that require product, compliance, and regulatory expertise and engagement with the primary goal of promoting Google Cloud adoption in key jurisdictions. 
  • Engage with officials by cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with policy experts, think tanks, and industry associations on strategic agreements, challenging new certification standards and upcoming legislation impacting our business strategy.
  • Represent Google Cloud demonstrating an understanding of public sector issues and our genuine commitment to partnering for the benefit of India's citizens.
