Imaging Systems Validation Engineer, Google Pixel

  • Experience with imaging analysis software (e.g., Imatest) and laboratory instrumentation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • 3 years of experience in imaging system validation, camera testing, or sensor characterization.
  • Experience in software development using Python and Matrix Laboratory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

About the job

The Imaging Systems Architecture team focuses on research, design, and evaluation of camera systems and technologies for Google's consumer hardware. We explore new imaging technology and applications to help bring the best of Google's photography experience to our users. We work with our Hardware partners in Technical Engineering, as well as cross-functionally with the Android Software, Extended Reality, and research organizations to develop immersive new imaging features for Google products.

As an Imaging System Validation Engineer on our team, you will be the primary authority on the performance and integrity of our advanced imaging architectures. You will design and execute sophisticated metrology frameworks to validate the optical, photometric, and sensor characteristics of complex camera systems. You are responsible for bridging the gap between design specifications and real-world hardware performance, ensuring that our imaging stacks deliver high-fidelity data and meet rigorous quality standards. Working alongside cross-functional hardware and software teams, you will solve unique calibration and performance issue to bring next-generation imaging innovation to life.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and execute comprehensive validation test plans for photographic and vision imaging systems.
  • Perform high-precision optical metrology (Modulation Transfer Function, distortion, luminance, colorimetry) using specialized lab equipment.
  • Develop automated test frameworks in Python or Matrix Laboratory to accelerate product development cycles.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on camera system defects and work with cross-functional teams (Optics, Electrical Engineering, Software) to implement fixes.
  • Generate detailed validation reports and present findings to executive leadership to influence design decisions.
