Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14 years of experience working on technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, law, or relevant industry associations.
  • Experience in privacy public policy.
  • Experience in public policy engagement across regions globally.
  • Experience with privacy considerations of data, artificial intelligence, and the online web ecosystem.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience shaping engagement with data protection authorities.
  • Experience working with technologies companies.
  • Experience in people management.
  • Ability to understand trends and develop strategy across issue areas and geographic boundaries.
  • Ability to write and present clearly to varied audiences.

About the job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

The Centers of Excellence (COE) organization is the hub within Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP), providing issue and functional expertise, ensuring a central global perspective on the policy issues affecting our business, and developing strategies and positions for Google’s regulatory and political engagement. Within COE, the Privacy, Safety, and Security (PSS) COE is responsible for this mission in relation to privacy, security, children's safety, government access to data, and the intersection of artificial intelligence with these issues.

This posting is for Privacy Team Lead within GAPP’s Privacy, Safety, and Security Center of Excellence.

In this role, you will lead a team of global strategy and subject matter experts on privacy. You will understand the global political, regulatory, and business context but can set these in a broader global perspective. You will be intellectually curious, a fast learner, capable of leading your work and region, and an incredible team player.

Responsibilities

  • Shape Google’s approach to public policy topics such artificial intelligence and privacy, privacy enhancing technologies, data transfers, ads privacy, and consent.
  • Partner with cross-functional and local teammates to drive our holistic privacy strategy globally.
  • Monitor, develop strategy, and engage with stakeholders and privacy regulators on legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives.
  • Develop company-wide positions, narratives, collateral, and programming.
  • Represent Government Affairs and Public Policy team with policymakers, civil society, and regulators; participate in stakeholder forums, working groups, and industry forums, including travel to a variety of United Kingdom (UK) and European Union (EU) member states when needed.
