Hardware Validation Lead, Platforms

This is a specialized role which requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment. Regular development and processing of engineering hardware must be performed on site.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience working in a data center systems architecture, design, hardware bring-up and validation technical environment.
  • 3 years of experience in technical leadership.
  • Experience partnering with industry leaders on evaluating, defining and driving test methodologies for hardware systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience working in data center systems architecture, design, hardware bring-up and validation.
  • Experience with leadership in defining test processes and solutions for large hardware organizations.
  • Knowledge of data center and hardware design, testing and deployment methodologies and issues.
  • Understanding of hardware architecture, electrical validation, including test methodologies for high speed interfaces, like Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), Compute Express Link (CXL), Ethernet and Double Data Rate (DDR).
  • Ability to solve system issues, technical innovation and driving technical roadmaps.

The Google Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team designs, builds and collaborates on hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services.

As a Hardware Validation Lead, you will design and architect validation methodologies and processes across the test horizontal for systems that are the heart of the computing infrastructure. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our data centers affecting Google users.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$258,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate system and subsystem hardware testing methodologies for data center hardware, covering electrical, functional, stress, and system-level testing.
  • Assess, structure, and formulate best practices to improve validation for slow speed interfaces like SPI and I2C, and high speed interfaces like PCIe, Ethernet, and DDR.
  • Develop strategy and roadmap for test infrastructure and process to meet future technology and portfolio requirements while defining high level architecture for product hardware validation.
  • Gather requirements, define high level architecture, execute strategy for product hardware validation.
    Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, product, and deployment teams to support deployment and field support.
  • Collaborate with external technology and system partners, to understand capabilities and industry trends, and represent Google’s technical requirements with these partners. Partner with software development and validation teams on end-to-end qualification and verification strategy and planning.
