Senior Staff Engineer, Fleet Economy Services, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience designing and implementing distributed software systems (e.g., Java, C++, or Python).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a technical related field.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience designing cloud systems or enterprise billing systems.

The Fleet Economy Services team in Cloud, OneFleet organization builds systems to support publishing of trustworthy and up-to-date resource costs along with projections, utilization, efficiency, and inventory metrics to drive data-based economically optimal decisions for Google's compute, storage, and network, directly impacting infrastructure planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and implement new systems from the ground up.
  • Build our next generation of infrastructure to deliver reliable and trustworthy data on resource economic costs and consumption/efficiency metrics for Google decision makers.
  • Partner with teams within Cloud Product Area to surface infrastructure costs and metrics insights to enable GMs, Product, and Finance teams to pinpoint opportunities for resource utilization efficiencies.
  • Solve complex problems by diagnosing data flows through multiple systems and analyzing anomalies to validate changes or isolate bugs.
