About the job
Join a cross-disciplinary team, providing a broad range of engineering skills in the development of complex multi-sensor collection systems. This involves working with internal and external teams to define system requirements, conduct exercises to trade these requirements, create detailed theory of operations and decision documents, and verification plans. Your interactions with product and program management, manufacturing, and PLM teams will define top-level design requirements and communicate the consequences of design decisions, leading to a coordinated and harmonious team. Your participation in the validation and production test process ensures that critical performance metrics continue to be met all the way through the final artifact in the field.
The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.
The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities
- Understand the consequences of mechanical, electrical, and software system design choices. Lead trade studies to weigh between margins in engineering disciplines and outward to stakeholders in neighboring teams to make the right decisions on the final system parameters.
- Petition and record requirements throughout the design lifecycle. Provide reconciliation of conflicting requirements, especially where this crosses the boundaries of interested parties.
- Be responsible for a repository of design recommendations and decisions to provide a comprehensive story about how the design concept came to be. Own critical parts of the system description, including the top-level assembly.
- Be responsible for creating, planning, and tracking system verification matrix and activities. Collaborate with design and test engineers to prove and document how components and systems will meet performance requirements, and incorporate manufacturing limitations, logistical, and financial constraints into design iterations.
