Algorithmic advancements will play a significant role in the future of GenAI models and agents, offering the promise of additional step changes in quality. At the same time, as agentic capabilities expand, ensuring their safety, alignment, and resilience against abuse will be critical for Google’s users, advertisers, and customers. We are seeking a visionary Principal PM in Google Research to define the future of foundational algorithms, privacy, and safety, partnering closely with PAs to develop and implement new approaches and technologies. This role will be a key advocate for Aligned AI, ensuring the strategy receives and maintains SVP-level attention and buy-in across Google.

In this senior-leadership role, you will bring deep expertise in algorithms, graph learning, safety, privacy, and anti-abuse research to the forefront of our most advanced AI projects. While you will operate on the Individual Contributor (IC) ladder, you will also manage and mentor a small, highly specialized team of PMs dedicated to this mission. You will also influence the organizational missions of partner teams to ensure cohesive execution of the foundational algorithms, safety, and privacy strategy.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $282,000-$392,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Identify and launch new approaches in model algorithms & architectures, complex agentic reasoning, graph learning, and memory management.
  • Chart the strategic course for user privacy, safety, and trust in next-generation agentic AI, anticipating complex future risks and architecting proactive mitigation and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Pioneer applications that ensure LLMs and autonomous agents strictly adhere to societal norms and exhibit safe, behaviorally appropriate actions across all edge cases. Identify and execute the path forward for 0-1 initiatives, including consequence-aware AI, ensuring that these nascent technologies successfully transition from research concepts to scalable, production-ready solutions.
  • Develop robust methodologies to detect, prevent, and continuously counter abuse vectors within rapidly evolving AI ecosystems.
