Technical Program Manager, Foundation Model Externalization, DeepMind

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in technical program or project management in a software engineering or cloud environment.
  • Experience managing software product launches with engineering and product teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing technical programs for AI or data-centric projects, and performing data analysis, investigation, and research.
  • Experience in managing accountability, ownership for end-to-end project life-cycle.
  • Knowledge of market trends, products, and solutions (including foundational technical understanding) of Cloud, AI, and Data solutions.
  • Familiarity with AI infrastructure and compute resources, such as TPU resource management and utilization tracking.
  • Track record in technical roles with Product Management and Engineering with the ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship building, collaboration and negotiation and skills with strong communication, project management and investigative skills.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

The GenAI T/PgM team is responsible for organizing and delivering priority programs, ensuring pace and focus towards DeepMind’s mission of solving intelligence to advance science and benefit humanity.

We partner with many technical teams across DeepMind, collaborating with Gemini leads, research scientists, engineers, Program Managers (PMs), and other T/PgMs to manage all aspects of complex GenAI programs.

You will be a contributor to the externalization of Gemini's SOTA (State-of-the-Art) models with key partners. You will closely collaborate with Gemini leads, research scientists, engineers, and other T/PgMs to plan, track, and manage all aspects of this complex engagement. You will be responsible for ensuring that the engagement stays on schedule, managing compute resources, identifying and mitigating risks, and designing tools that facilitate timely decision-making. You will apply AI, organizational, and communication experience to work on AI research.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $218,000-$237,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Gemini’s model development work with key partners. Develop detailed project plans, supporting the creation of technical roadmaps in collaboration with engineering stakeholders, defining milestones, tracking progress, and managing dependencies.
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential issues that could impact project timelines and enable engineering teams to maintain program velocity.
  • Streamline execution and implement automated tooling.
  • Manage compute resources including forecasting, timely reallocations, and making prioritization recommendations to Gemini leads.
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and guidance with other team members to enhance overall team performance.
