Software Engineer, Infrastructure and Data AI, Ads Platform

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in Java, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • Experience with generative AI technologies, large language models (LLMs), and building engineering productivity tools.
  • Experience managing production systems, including efficiency measurement and system optimization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures, algorithms, large-scale query optimization, or distributed database ecosystems (e.g., Google Cloud Spanner).
  • Experience developing accessible technologies and building resilient backend architectures that support complex data science and data exploration use cases.
  • Experience programming in Python or C++.
  • Experience building and deploying Generative AI agents and utilizing comprehensive AI platforms to streamline developer workflows.

In this role, you will build and support the critical infrastructure components that allow businesses, from local shops to Fortune 500 companies, to realize their goals. You will act as a curator and infrastructure provider for internal and external developer use cases across Google Ads, Search Ads 360, and Display and Video 360, constantly innovating to deliver the most effective advertising and commerce opportunities of tomorrow.

We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code using Java to build highly scalable backend storage infrastructure and develop Large Language Model (LLM) based agentic AI solutions.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and cross-functional stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies and drive the direction of AI-driven tools.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices for massive-scale distributed databases and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) engines.
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content for external developers and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback regarding AI agents that track changes to Ads entities.
  • Triage product or system issues related to bulk schema changes, and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
