Director, Head of HR, Japan

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in HR leadership in global, multinational companies including HR business partnership roles, at regional or country level.
  • Experience with employment laws, regulations, and HR priorities within Japan.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Japanese fluently to support local relationship management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as an HR Business Partner with expertise in talent, performance, and development initiatives, change management, employee relations, and labour relations.
  • Experience leading and implementing global, large-scale HR operational projects including system applications, change management, business readiness, communications, and capability building.
  • Ability to influence and partner with all levels of leadership to drive continuous improvement and organizational change.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate large, complex changes across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Exceptional personal and professional credibility, including responsiveness, business focus, integrity, sound judgment, and ability to prioritize effectively across competing demands.

About the job

As the Director, Head of HR Japan, you will play a pivotal role in contributing to the vision for Market HR for People Operations at Google by setting the market-specific HR strategy for Japan. You will leverage insights from business imperatives and nuanced local needs, drive a “One Google” experience, and work with counterparts across APAC People Operations and Global Market HR team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with senior management and country leadership across multiple Product Areas/Business Functions to foster a unified leadership. 
  • Be the custodian of employee experience and work across People Operations teams to deliver outstanding experience to Googlers.  
  • Build a cohesive local People Operations team through strong partnerships and touchpoints with People Operations counterparts in markets.
  • Represent Google in external associations and establish strong relationships with industry forums, networks, governments, and labor councils.
  • Act as a point of contact for Center of Excellence (COE) to provide input to new solutions and services, and support COE in driving change in Japan. Work with COEs to identify and develop mitigation plans for employment, labor, and compliance related risks or regulatory audits in a timely manner.
