Senior Lead, Energy Market Development

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Science, Law, Policy, Economics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience working in the energy sector.
  • Experience working on policy or regulation in Europe related to electricity markets or electricity networks.
  • Experience working in the Great Britain electricity market, including experience with power market design, structure, and the stakeholder ecosystem.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in European electricity markets and electricity networks (connection processes, network development planning, grid tariffs etc.).
  • Experience working within an energy regulator, or the regulatory unit of an energy supplier, Transmission System Operator (TSO), Distribution System Operator (DSO), or energy ministry.
  • Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.
  • Excellent verbal, written and project management skills with the ability to lead complex, multi-year regulatory campaigns.

As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating agreements, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting agreement recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

Google's Energy and Power team supports Google to achieve its goals of clean, affordable and reliable energy supply to its global fleet of data centers. The EMEA Energy Market Development team ensures that EMEA energy markets can meet the long-term needs of Google's infrastructure business to scale, operate reliably, and access affordable Carbon-Free Energy.

As a Senior Lead in the Energy Market Development team, you will be responsible for designing and directing the strategic evolution of energy markets and region-wide programmes that ensure Google’s digital infrastructure is powered by reliable carbon-free electricity. You will lead external advocacy and engagement in key European markets, defining corporate positions and influencing regulatory frameworks to drive the transformation of energy markets. You will play a critical role in supporting major investments in digital infrastructure and carbon-free energy supply. You will interact with executive industry stakeholders at the local, national and European level.

Responsibilities

  • Design and direct energy market development strategy in multiple European markets including, but not limited to, Great Britain.
  • Lead external advocacy on key energy regulatory files at both National and European Union level, working closely with trade associations, industry partners, and decision-makers. Draft energy positions and respond to external public consultation on energy.
  • Support Google's commercial energy and data center development functions in EMEA by shaping electricity markets to ensure the business can meet its needs to secure reliable, affordable, clean electricity for digital infrastructure. Support energy supply negotiations with technical expertise.
  • Represent Google externally in engagements with executive industry stakeholders and participation in external events. Support communication with decision makers at regional, national and pan-European level.
  • Design and steer transversal region-wide strategic energy programmes that support powering the business with reliable, affordable, clean electricity.
