Software Engineer, Immersive XR

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C++, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience in Android internal development (i.e., Android operating systems, APIs, frameworks, etc.).
  • Experience with performance tuning and performance optimization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with Augmented and Mixed Reality.
  • Experience with core Android components such as camera, graphics and composition.

The AR Immersive Platform team develops the high quality, reliable, and performant Android OS extensions that are needed to deliver the Android Extended Reality (XR) developer platform and tool set for Immersive experiences on the XR capable devices. We create hypotheses and test them, before implementing the changes in the Android Framework (often taking advantage of Linux kernel subsystems). The larger XR team focuses on performance across the entire software stack, and we collaborate for system-wide solutions.

The Google Augmented Reality team is a diverse group of experts tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and building helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to billions of people through mobile devices, and our scope continues to grow and evolve.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Analyze performance of Android on XR devices.
  • Implement changes in the Android Framework to improve performance, thermals, and battery-life on XR devices.
  • Help maintain the XR performance features.
  • Help research new XR performance, thermal, and battery features.
  • Communicate, design, and implement decisions effectively through architecture/design documents and code.
