Lead Group Product Manager, Search

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in product management or related technical role.
  • 5 years of experience taking technical products from conception to launch.
  • 5 years of experience in people management with technical leadership.
  • 5 years of experience in consumer-facing product management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technology or a business related field.
  • Experience with, or continued interest in building accessibility best practices, and incorporating inclusion and accessibility into product development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Japanese culture, consumer behavior, and language, and to develop products that resonate with Japanese users.
  • Ability to communicate in Japanese fluently to interact with local stakeholders and understand user needs in the Japanese market.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, UX/UI, Sales, finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent business and technical communication skills.

Our team works closely with creative engineers, designers, marketers, etc. to help design and develop technologies that improve access to the world's information. We're responsible for guiding products throughout the execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, packaging, promoting, and tailoring our solutions to our users.

In this role, you will adapt this vital product to a unique market. Japanese users have distinct needs and expectations, and you will be responsible for developing and executing a localized Search strategy that drives growth and engagement. This involves deep dives into the Japanese internet landscape, identifying high-Return on Investment initiatives, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in Japan and globally. You will be an advocate for Japanese users, ensuring their needs are reflected in product development and collaborating with engineering, UX, and data science to bring our outlook to life. Success in this role requires an understanding of both the Japanese market and Google Search, excellent communication skills to secure leadership alignment, and a passion for delivering a best Search experience tailored to Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product strategy by defining the outlook, strategy, and product road map for Search Japan.
  • Lead product development by overseeing a team of Product Managers(PMs) to deliver in a new and ambiguous product space, utilizing experimentation and data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate across functions by working with engineering, communications, and other teams to ensure successful go-to-market execution.
  • Build a high-performing team by inspiring and developing a group of product managers, fostering a culture of collaboration and high-performance.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and decision-making skills within a geographically distributed team.
