Senior Software Engineer, BigQuery Continuous Queries

In accordance with Washington state law, we are highlighting our comprehensive benefits package, which is available to all eligible US based employees.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • Experience programming in C++.
  • Experience with distributed computing, database internals, and large-scale data processing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience working with database or storage systems, BigQuery, or distributed databases.
  • Experience programming in Java.

BigQuery is a multi-tenant cloud-based data warehouse storing exabytes of user data. BigQuery powers a number of major Google Cloud Platform (GCP) customer's workflows and continues to be one of the most successful products in GCP.

In this role, you will be working on a long-term innovative effort to support continuous query processing natively in BigQuery. This will enable the users to run complex streaming scenarios ingesting/exporting real time data from/to Pub-Sub/Kafka/Bigtable for dashboarding, online monitoring, real-time Machine Learning (ML) inferencing. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Implement workload management components (autoscaling, load balancing) to support a large-scale continuous query engine.
  • Implement tests and experiments to evaluate and monitor the performance of the system with a focus on throughput and cost or benefit analysis.
  • Use the full battery of tools and instrumentation to develop, test, and rollout features.
  • Coordinate with product engineers in all parts of the software stack.
  • Debug and solve customer issues and respond to customer feedback.
