Staff Software Engineer, Search Ads Serving Infrastructure

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience programming in C++.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
- 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experince in mathematics.
- Experience with automation systems and related infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills and collaboration with a range of people and job functions.
- Strong programming background, preferably in C/C++.
- Demonstrated expertise in large-scale distributed systems, such as indexing, serving, performance tuning, etc.

Search Ads Serving is the infrastructure and quality machinery that powers ads on all Google Search queries, including queries to Search Ads partners and Google owned-and-operated properties (e.g., Google Maps, YouTube Search, Discovery Feed, Google Shopping property). Thousands of engineers in dozens of feature and quality teams develop on this system. The system is constantly evolving to support numerous launches, and provides APIs, testing frameworks and tools/processes to allow high developer productivity and operational excellence.

We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
- Play a leading role in a highly reliable infrastructure that's responsible for revenue.
- Collaborate across Ads teams to understand client teams' needs, identify opportunities, and deliver impact.
- Identify performance optimization opportunities and deliver latency/resource savings.
- Build automation systems and related tools to operate this large and critical system at scale.
