Minimum qualifications:
- JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of post qualification experience in private practice or an in-house team.
- Experience advising globally on a range of commercial and research matters of intellectual property, data and privacy issues.
- Qualified solicitor in either England and Wales, Australia or a US attorney.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience advising on AI issues, including negotiating AI-related agreements.
- Experience in one or more of the following: life sciences advisory, laws and regulations that govern medical device classification, food and drug administration (FDA) regulation of medical device or biopharmaceutical products, HIPAA and the HITECH Act.
- Experience working on AI products or systems, and have a balanced view of the opportunities and risks of those AI products or systems.

The Google DeepMind Legal team provides proactive and strategic legal counseling to accelerate Google DeepMind’s research, ensure smooth operations and enable fast-paced progress towards our mission.

Responsibilities
- Structure, draft and negotiate commercial agreements associated with Google DeepMind’s research, product and operational activities, primarily focusing on collaboration agreements, technology research and development agreements, licence agreements and services agreements.
- Collaborate with teams to responsibly partner with vendors such as Contract Research Organizations, including negotiating any necessary agreements and ensuring robust, scalable compliance frameworks that meet AI model development needs.
- Support strategic research efforts by spotting and advising on legal issues and risks.
- Advise on the full life-cycle of AI model development from ideation, training, testing, validation, publication, and commercial and open release strategy.
- Support the Legal team’s initiatives to manage and track objectives and key results (OKRs), coordinate legal processes, and report on key legal metrics in support of high-level team strategies.
