Technical Accountant

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • 7 years of experience in public accounting firms and multinational companies.
  • Experience working on accounting/accounting entries, technical accounting, revenue accounting, or a similar role.
  • Experience with revenue recognition and related guidelines, such as ASC 606.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience recording journal entries with SAP or SAP Analytics Cloud experience.
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting principles, with subject matter expertise in ASC 606.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.

About the job

In this role, you will gain an understanding of complex business arrangements spanning multiple product and functional areas. You will be recording activity in a custom instance of SAP Analytics Cloud for Alphabet's complex Cross-Product Areas business calculations. You will lead the process to gather inputs and utilize SAP Analytics Cloud to calculate revenue recognition for complex agreements that span multiple Controllership teams. In addition to effective project management throughout the process, you will review business outputs by developing analyses to ensure accuracy and preparing various journal entries, reconciliations, and presentations as part of the quarterly close process. You will embed with the accounting advisory teams to understand the agreement construct and prepare to intake the Cross-Product Areas agreements into the accounting journal entry process.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000-$183,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with agreements teams to understand Alphabet’s complex business agreements that span multiple product areas in order to prepare Controllership teams to account for these arrangements.
  • Perform technical research on complex ASC 606 accounting issues in order to ensure that accounting entries are in compliance with US GAAP. 
  • Lead the process to gather inputs and utilize SAP Analytics Cloud, including preparing analytics, review controls, and reconciliations to validate system outputs. 
  • Use program/project management knowledge to manage process workflows with effective communication to guide and influence others. 
  • Provide executive communications and quarterly reporting on agreements within the scope of the Cross-Product Areas Technical Accounting team.
