The Next Step SWE Program in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte is aimed at Black and Indigenous undergraduate students in Computer Science (or related fields) in São Paulo or Belo Horizonte, with graduation expected between February and June 2028 and be available to intern in a hybrid model 3 days in person from the Google Office in São Paulo or Belo Horizonte, during 18 months starting in August. Participation in the internship program requires that you are located and have legal authorization to intern in Brazil for the duration of the program. 

Timeline

  • Application: Please complete your application before March 22, 2026. 

  • Interviews: Will occur on a rolling basis through April 2026

  • Internship: 18 consecutive months starting in August 2026

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field at a university in the Belo Horizonte or São Paulo area, with graduation expected between February and June 2028.
  • Experience in writing code and programming in one of the following: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Golang, Python, Kotlin, or Dart.
  • Available to work 30 hours per week in a hybrid format (Belo Horizonte or São Paulo) for 18 months, starting August 2026.
  • Ability to communicate in Portuguese fluently to engage with local stakeholders, partners, and customers within the Brazilian market.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more of the following subjects: data structures and algorithms, software development and programming practice, object-oriented programming, operating systems principles, networking, distributed systems, computer architecture and organization, web development, database, software engineering, machine learning.
  • Knowledge of foundational concepts in Computer Science and programming, with competencies in data structures and algorithms (i.e., research assistant, teaching assistant, personal projects, etc.) or other practical experience at school or outside of it.
  • Knowledge of the internet and Google’s technology business.
  • Ability to navigate in an ambiguous environment.
  • Excellent people management, problem solving, and organizational skills.

The Next Step Program in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte is open to undergrad Black and Indigenous students in Computer Science or related areas. Join us for a unique internship offering personal and professional development. You will work on computer science solutions, develop scalable software systems, and collaborate on projects with universal appeal—requiring research, awareness, and interactivity.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will work on core products and services supporting critical engineering operations. Whether finding innovative ways to advance search quality or scaling complex auction systems, you will help solve technical problems. You will research, conceive, and develop applications to improve Google's offerings and collaborate on scalability issues involving large-scale data.
