Mechatronics Engineer, Data Center Automation

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience designing and testing multiple subsystems and systems (e.g., software, robotics algorithms, electrical systems, mechanical systems, control systems).
  • 3 years of experience creating and reviewing drawings to ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5 standards with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, etc.
  • 3 years of experience with industrial electrical control system components and system design, and regional industrial and safety standards (e.g., ISO, NFPA, RIA, ANSI, etc).
  • 3 years of experience with project leadership, partnering requirements with stakeholders, and documenting consensus in detailed system specifications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience programming industrial automation and robotics (e.g. Allen Bradley, Codesys, Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, OpenCV).
  • Experience building, testing and troubleshooting equipment using electrical and mechanical fabrication and test equipment. Experience with standards-based practices in safety and electrical.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Experience in software development (e.g., C++, C#, or Python).
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) vault administration (e.g., SolidWorks PDM)

The Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team designs and builds the hardware and software technologies that power all of Google's services. The Mechanical Product Design Engineering Team members work cross-functionally to design, build, and deploy the latest technology to support the needs of compute, storage, networking, and machine learning hardware.

As the operations continue to grow, The team will building more physical automation, industrial robotic systems, automated material handling systems and tightly integrated control systems into our rapidly-expanding network of data centers.

In this role, you will develop a wide variety of automation and robotics systems for our data centers. You will manage detailed requirement definitions and partner with the end user for release and implementation. Additionally, you will plan validation activities to demonstrate readiness of solutions into mass deployment.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$150,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Designs industrial automation and robotics equipment for Google data centers.
  • Collaborates with mechanical, electrical, control systems, and software engineers to define technical requirements and influence project direction.
  • Lead the technical direction, projects, and strategic plans for the team, engineers, and vendors or contractors responsible for the implementation and maintenance of solutions.
  • Define architecture of automation solutions, create detailed mechanical designs, author requests for quote, statements of work, and manage vendor engagement.
  • Write system specifications, test plans, theory of operation, operations manuals, maintenance manuals and other technical documentation for solutions.
