Staff Software Developer, reCAPTCHA Fraud Prevention

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 2 years of applied machine learning experience building machine learning workflows and infrastructure.
  • 2 years of experience building and developing infrastructure or distributed systems.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects, or in a supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • 2 years of experience in machine learning evaluation, anomaly detection, or a similar role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management role.
  • Experience with anomaly detection techniques and tools.
  • Understanding of machine learning evaluation methodologies, metrics, and best practices.

This team dives deep into the payment vertical, detecting attacks such as carding, chargeback fraud and gift card fraud on 100k+ sites that use reCAPTCHA to protect their payment actions. Attackers can obtain outsized value in financial fraud compared to more traditional competencies of the reCAPTCHA engine, so building new signals, models, and verdicts in this new area will greatly expand the addressable market of our product. As a member of the Payment Fraud product under the reCAPTCHA umbrella, you will work very closely with the product manager to define the goal and strategy.Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
  • Influence and coach a distributed team of developers.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Design, develop and be responsible for software systems specifically aimed at detecting and preventing fraudulent transactions for the payment systems.
  • Solve deep technical challenges in integrating insights across reCAPTCHA ecosystem with the innovation of creating new signals and models to stop fraudsters in their tracks.
