Lease Operational Accountant

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • 4 years of experience in accounting or a related function, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
  • Experience with US GAAP related to ASC 842 (lease accounting) or IFRS 16 lease accounting standards and fixed asset/construction accounting.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with spreadsheets and presentation software.
  • Experience with SQL and SAP.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, fluid environment, and to support complex operational initiatives.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with executive management.

The Lease team manages the global accounting for Google’s TI leases which include third-party data centers, collocated facilities, and dark fiber. This infrastructure is at the foundation of Google the global data centers, networks and integrating hardware and software that powers both our unique customer products and services and our internal operations.

The REWS lease accounting team manages the global accounting for Google’s leased office space, including the sublease of both owned and leased properties. These workspaces and related services enable Googlers to grow as we work to deliver on Google’s mission.

In this role, you will support lease accounting operations and systems for the Technical Infrastructure (TI) and Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) teams.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$146,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Support operational accounting activities for TI and REWS lease population including the month-end close and quarter-end 10Q/10K reporting support for lease disclosures, preparation and posting of ad-hoc journal entries and review of account reconciliations.
  • Review significant agreements and work with the REWS lease accounting advisory team for proper accounting treatment.
  • Work cross-functionally with business advisors, US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Accounting teams, entity leads, and international controllership.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, system improvements, and drive implementation of the solutions.
  • Support the TI and REWS lease accounting systems and related workflows. Work with various teams (i.e., business advisory teams, Corporate Engineering, REWS, Emergency Location Service, NetCo) on any necessary changes/updates.
