Research Data Scientist, Identity Personalization

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or a PhD degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or a PhD degree.
  • Experience with multivariate analysis, sampling methods, experiment design, and causal inference.
  • Ability to balance applied quantitative methods and practical impact.
  • Excellent problem-framing, problem-solving and team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in communicating technical and statistical concepts clearly to cross-functional audience.

Google Identity and Engagement (GIE) provides tools and infrastructure to unlock personalized experiences and drive growth and engagement across the Google ecosystem. This includes infrastructure for Google accounts: account creation, account management, and authentication; notifications infrastructure; and tools for sharing between accounts.

The Trustworthy Personalization team within GIE focuses on helping users to build and curate their digital identities to unlock better, personalized experiences across Google, specifically by:

  • Developing centralized and effective account management products and primitives
  • Addressing top user needs in building a unified online identity
  • Powering AI-driven personalized experiences with user context and control across Google products
As a Data Scientist on the Trustworthy Personalization team, you will work closely with cross -functional product teams to provide analytical leadership towards the organization's mission. This role presents a unique opportunity to drive product decisions based on extensive analysis of user behavior across the Google ecosystem and with their Google accounts, answering critical questions like: How can Google Accounts empower personalized experiences across the Google ecosystem? What are the drivers of account churn and retention? How can account management products better serve user needs across Google?

We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product, Engineering and User Experience (UX) research teams to provide investigative thought leadership, support metrics research and advanced statistical analysis of user journeys across GIE surfaces and Google products
  • Identify metrics improvement areas, design new metrics, and evaluation methods
  • Perform large-scale data analysis and modeling to identify opportunities for deepening the understanding of end-user behavior, product improvements and measure the impact of initiatives on top level KPIs
  • Use statistical methods to design and suggest experiments and new ways to establish causality, estimate impact and answer strategic questions using data
  • Support teams with advanced experimentation methods, detect user learning effects, and drive actionable user insights. Make product recommendations with presentations of findings for multiple levels of stakeholders.
