External Communications Manager, Youtube

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications.
  • Experience managing product and business communications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in a fast-paced business, media or non-profit environment.
  • Experience in creative storytelling, proactive press outreach, and building relationships with journalists and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
  • Ability to plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously, and to influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to be a team-player who can divvy up difficult projects and work well with a number of cross-functional teammates.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

About the job

As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.

Over the past 20 years, YouTube has grown from a small video website into the leading video streaming platform. Today, YouTube offers the widest and most collection of content available online on any format or device. We are looking for an experienced, creative and takes initiative to join the Product Communications team at YouTube.

In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams to develop and execute creative campaigns around YouTube’s comprehensive suite of products, businesses and features - which spans consumer experiences, subscription services, creator products, artist tools and more.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000-$157,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Manage communications for a wide range of YouTube products and businesses.
  • Develop communications strategies, narratives, blog posts, pitches, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), social plans, and more. Manage crisis communications. Brief spokespeople and staff interviews.
  • Manage and cultivate partnerships with a broad swath of media, including tech, consumer, and business press; but also new media, creators, podcasters and more. Keep a strong pulse on the social conversation and creator landscape.
  • Devise and execute creative consumer Public Relations (PR) campaigns to drive awareness, usage and momentum for YouTube’s products and businesses.
  • Work closely with the YouTube product, engineering and marketing teams to devise communication strategies to deliver on business goals.
