Hardware Test Engineer, Engineering Labs, Platforms

This is a specialized role which requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment.  Regular development and processing of engineering hardware must be performed on site.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a hardware test technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience with AC/DC power design and testing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in technical leadership.
  • Experience in any two of the following: signal integrity, power circuit testing, optical testing, network testing, scripting, and hardware test execution automation using Python.
  • Experience with Linux or other Unix operating systems (Ubuntu or RHEL) and shell scripts.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings such as schematics, datasheets, and written work instructions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and people management skills, with the ability to coordinate and manage the needs of multiple lab users.

As a senior Hardware Test Engineer, you will be part of a core team of cross-discipline engineers to define, implement and execute tests of end-to-end highly complex ML platform's high power distribution design involving AC/DC rectifier, Baseband Unit (BBU) and Power Distribution Unit (PDU). You will also be responsible for liaison between Hardware Engineering teams such as Mechatronics and ML System and the lab team to ensure lab resources are accounted for and to ensure we are ‘lab-ready’ for new products entering the Research and Development labs or sustaining efforts. Additionally, you will help to manage lab budget, hiring, performance management, and the well-being of the team as well as ensuring the labs are well organized and providing a safe working environment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end rack system integration testing by defining system configurations and drive the development of test automation to facilitate system performance, design reliability and failure reproduction.
  • Design network, power and cooling infrastructure for end-to-end system testing.
  • Drive development of test software and infrastructure required for managing fleet of test systems at scale to avoid manual configuration and test execution; Develop quality data collection systems and visualization of the data (i.e., measurements).
  • Provide integrated software to synchronize test execution on Device-under-Test (DUT) with external smart measurement instrumentation.
  • Be a core contributor within a team of hardware/software designers, test engineers, on project planning and execution coordination within hardware development labs, ensuring adequate resources and project milestones are met.
