Software Engineering Manager, Google Home Camera

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Communications, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in embedded system development with technical leadership or project leading experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • Experience in Andorid/Linux Board Support Package (BSP), camera, networking or video streaming development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: networking, embedded Linux, network video streaming and camera application.
  • Experience in Linux camera software stack development such as camera driver, hal, framework and application.
  • Experience in network video streaming, WebRTC development and optimization, and experience in Internet of Things (IoT) camera and smart home technologies development.

The Google Home Camera Software team builds smart home cameras that leverage intelligent AI to ensure home security and safety. We combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware to create helpful experiences for our users. Our team researches, designs, and develops new technologies to make user interactions with computing more seamless.The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and lead a team of Engineers contributing and leading camera software stack and platform development in camera products.
  • Track and communicate progress and risks, maintaining alignment with product roadmap to various stakeholders while owning development and shipment responsibilities.
  • Lead projects, oversee architecture and critical implementations, product and code quality, and use of best practices focused on developing scalable camera software stack solutions.
  • Coach and develop leadership skills of direct reports. Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and selection-making across teams.
