Senior Software Engineer, AI/ML, Shopping Ads Targeting

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with one or more of the following: Recommendation/Ranking/Prediction (RRP), Computer Vision (CV), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Deep Learning/Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning, or Distributed Machine Learning.
  • 3 years of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Deep Learning, Computer Vision, NLP, Speech, or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience with AdsML, PyTorch, TFX, Tensorflow, Jax, or Keras.
  • Experience or research in ads, search, or recommendation systems.

Shopping Search Ads offers a seamless experience for users to browse, compare, and buy products directly from search results. In this role, you will own and operates the intricate shopping targeting stack, which is responsible for efficiently finding the most relevant and performing ad candidates from our ad inventory for all search queries with shopping intent. You will own and operate the shopping targeting stack, which determines what ad candidates participate in the auction.

We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Collaborate with peers and stakeholders through design and code reviews to ensure best practices amongst available technologies (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.).
  • Develop and refine Visual Retrieval techniques to enhance the performance and relevance of Product-listing ads (PLA) results on image-first properties.
  • Leverage the multi modal Gemini to deepen our understanding of both user and ads images and integrate the advanced models into shopping ads targeting products.
  • Design and implement innovative targeting solutions that unlock new and better Shopping Ads experience and capability.
