Optics Hardware Engineer

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in the field of optics and display systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Experience in mass production of consumer optical and display devices.
  • Experiences in managing domestic and international vendors, completing the cycles from proof of concept through mass production.
  • Experience in visual display systems design for Extended Reality (XR) devices.
  • Experience in stray light analysis and mitigation, diffractive optics, polarization optics, and display calibration.
  • Experience working with key stakeholders to iterate designs, review manufacturing processes, and follow through on as-built performance and metrology.

About the job

In this role, you will be owning the complete optical display system specifications for AR displays. You will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and performing tolerance analysis on these systems. This includes collaborating with stakeholders on design iterations, manufacturing reviews, and performance metrology. You will also work closely with multi-functional teams to set goals and priorities throughout product development, and communicate results and tradeoffs effectively. Expect to travel to support prototype builds.

You will also, develop new AR hardware reference designs, develop software that powers our next generation of AR glasses and other devices, and build a center of excellence in AR Hardware that lifts the entire ecosystem.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop optical display systems specifications of Augmented Reality (AR) displays.
  • Perform design, optimization, and tolerance analysis of optical display systems.
  • Work with key stakeholders to iterate design, review the manufacturing process, follow through as-built performance and metrology.
  • Work with the multi-functional team, establishing clear goals and priorities throughout the product development process.
  • Travel to support prototyping builds at component, module, and system CMs.
