The Global Network Edge (GNE) team is responsible for the network that connects Goolgle's cloud customers directly to our Cloud Networking and other GCP offerings, as well as individual users globally to Google's services such as Gmail, Search, and YouTube through the Google backbone. GNE team owns the entire life-cycle of new products and technologies being introduced into Google Global Network's edge domain - conceptualizing, prototyping, developing, automation and testing, executing the pilot, rolling out to the network, making it generally available, supporting the network/design in its deployed state. The team focuses on the holistic health of the customer facing edge network - delivering the edge as a modular component of GGN's network planning and deployment pipelines.


The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Build innovative and scalable Software Defined Network control plane systems for Google's Global Network Edge, to efficiently and reliably control Google's Edge network.
  • Build software to interface with global Software Defined Networking (SDN) controllers and bandwidth management systems, translating high-level network intent into device configurations using industry-standard protocols like gRIBI, gNMI, and RPCs.
  • Design and implement hardware abstraction layers and on-device agents and distributed software frameworks to enable programmable edge networking for AI/ML clusters.
  • Design, and implement scalable control plane networking features, including software architecture evolution, admission control and bandwidth enforcement, network programming coordination and management, and availability improving mechanisms.
  • Lead the testing strategy by implementing rigorous unit and component tests using network emulation tools. Validate features virtually to significantly reduce New Product Introduction cycle times and ensure high reliability.
