UX Designer, Emerging Bets, YouTube, Trust and Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of interaction design experience in product design or UX design.
  • 2 years of experience working on online media topics related to responsibility, security, trust and safety, identity or privacy.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with emerging technologies and issues to understand their risk and business challenges, with the ability to use your expertise to develop solutions that meet both business and user needs.
  • Experience in online responsibility and safety issues, with the ability to understand cross-functional business constraints and propose realistic solutions to ambiguous problems.
  • Experience working directly with Business and Operations teams to understand their needs and business drivers, and the ability to find common ground between the different requirements.
  • Ability to understand what drives optimization, efficiency, and the bottom line, with excellent business and metrics skills.

From creating user flows and wireframes to building mockups and prototypes, you will envision and bring product experiences to life with an inspired, refined, and magical feel. You will join our multi-disciplinary UX team, collaborating with Engineering and Product Management, leveraging user insights to create industry-leading products.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.

In this role, your mission is to create an environment where the YouTube community can safely explore and participate. You will build the infrastructure, tools and policy experiences that enforce its community guidelines at scale and keep the community safe. You will help YouTube better manage and develop solutions to emerging issues impacting the platform.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $159,000-$231,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively with various set of cross-functional teams to identify safety challenges, develop sustainable solutions and advocate their adoption; all in service of keeping YouTube and its community safe.
  • Navigate the ambiguity of emerging issues (e.g., youth safety) work with partners to simplify complex problems, and develop novel solutions to issues where there is no clear precedent.
  • Deliver user focused solutions that manage and balance nuanced product constraints (e.g., regulation, legal risk, user value).
  • Influence and guide adjacent design efforts, partner with various stakeholders to challenge current thinking, and provoke new thinking on such a critical issue.
  • Develop your expertise in new and challenging issues (e.g., youth safety, deepfakes) and use that expertise to influence stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
