Partner Technology Manager, Android Partner Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in either system design or in one programming language (Java, C++, Python, etc.).
  • 5 years of experience in technical troubleshooting, and managing internal/external partners or customers.
  • 5 years of experience in Android/Linux based platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Android Compliance or owning and defining software, hardware, UX requirements.
  • Ability to jump into both Google and Android code bases, understand code, and identify issue failures, with excellent technical skills.
  • Effective communication and project management skills, with a track record of handling multiple stakeholders and streams of work.

About the job

The Android Platform Compatibility team ensures a consistent platform and application API surface across the range of Android devices including phones, tablets, TV, automotive, and emerging verticals. We drive compatibility by defining minimum hardware requirements, establishing platform standards by technology or feature area, and enforcing these through compatibility testing. We also work closely with OEM manufacturers worldwide to build and certify compatible Android devices. Our ultimate goal is to support Android application developers at scale by ensuring uniform platform implementations across billions of compatible Android devices, allowing apps to run seamlessly across different brands and form factors.

This team plays a critical role in expanding Android into new verticals, collaborating with Google Engineering teams to align with existing platform policies and conventions. We help onboard new product areas into the Android ecosystem and define new requirements or enablement pathways for novel experiences introduced by these emerging product categories.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Define new Android Extended Reality (XR) hardware, platform, application compatibility, and service requirements to deliver a consistent user and developer experience.
  • Be the trusted owner of the AndroidXR Compliance program. Drive visibility on progress/dependencies/risks/issues to XR stakeholders.
  • Work with XR Engineering, Product Management, and Engineering Productivity stakeholders to ensure the new platform is compliant with existing Android API compatibility, security and privacy standards.
  • Collaborate with geographically distributed Engineering teams to ensure new products/categories are Android compatible and create new AndroidXR platform verification programs. Contribute to designing policies, tools, and programs to help the AndroidXR platform scale to new ecosystem partners.
  • Build strong partnerships across Google and leverage your technical acumen to drive process improvements in requirements development, technical enforcement, and platform implementation.
