Senior System Architect, Charging, Thermal

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working with mobile devices, batteries, charging, wireless charging, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with power measurement tools, digital multimeter, thermocouples, etc.
  • Experience with Android tools such as adb, shell scripts, etc.
  • Experience developing Python scripts, and Python simulation models.
  • Experience in mobile devices, batteries, charging, wireless charging.
  • Understanding of mobile devices, including both hardware and software, and interactions between the two.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly and learn new fields and technologies with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

The Pixel System Architecture team plays a key role in defining the next generation of Pixel products, including phones and emerging concepts. During the product-definition phase, the team takes a systems view, working cross-functionally to map targeted user experiences into workloads and to drive hardware definition decisions. The team also develops and leverages power and performance models to project key system KPIs, ensuring all decisions are optimized for the best user experience. In the productization phase, we work closely with engineering teams to support execution, validate our projections and support product feature and software decisions at key checkpoints through launch.

In particular, the Thermal System Architecture group aims to manage thermal challenges by creating a coherent thermal strategy that considers all the aspects of the problem: mechanical design, electrical design, power consumption, software strategy and user experience.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional hardware and software teams to optimize the user charging experience for better thermal and faster charging.
  • Develop system-level simulation models (Python) and methodologies to project charging/thermal performance and inform cross-functional decisions.
  • Participate in the development of new charging technologies (wired and wireless), new software algorithms and also new battery technologies.
  • Identify key usage patterns and areas of frictions to influence charging workstreams.
