Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.
- Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
- Experience with TCP/IP-based, routing, and network management protocols.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with planning and designing large scale networks (e.g., multiple sites, multiple products, etc.).
- Experience working in a customer-facing role at an Internet Service Provider, carrier, content network, or Content Delivery Networks(CDNs).
- Understanding of cloud computing, Linux server environments, network design and deployment, managing large scale infrastructure.

As a Google Network Operations Engineer, you will be a key part of Google's life support system for ensuring the delivery of service to its customers. You will be responsible for the smooth operation of Google's vast and complex global production network. Working with other network and software engineers and teams in Google, you will help ensure the smooth operation of Google’s production network, supporting both optical and IP infrastructure. You will be at the event horizon of high severity network impacts, combining excellent troubleshooting, communication, and network management skills, to expedite problem resolution and act as a key point of contact between internal groups, vendors, and network peers. You will make skillful use of a complex and evolving array of both industry standard and Google proprietary technologies to ensure that Google's production network continues to be a reference standard for reliability and performance.
Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Create workflow, network monitoring/troubleshooting automation to improve the customer experience while driving process improvements, and automate turn-up and service delivery.
- Help customers resolve issues with network services, and assist with troubleshooting issues with connectivity and performance.
- Validate and test customer configurations in an Interoperability lab environment.
- Lead improvements in documentation, playbooks, and training for support organizations and Network Operations Centers (NOCs).
- Participate in on-call rotation for escalated issues.
