Associate Principal Analyst, Generative AI, Trust and Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in data analytics, Trust and Safety, policy, AI/ML, cyber-security, or related fields.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working in technical and policy challenges of AI systems.
  • Experience in SQL, building dashboards, data collection/transformation, visualization/dashboards, scripting/programming language (e.g., Python) or AI/ML.
  • Experience using statistical analysis and hypothesis testing.
  • Experience working on novel AI risks and threat actors engaging in cyber mis-use, societal harms, weaponization, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) with the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. Our Trust and Safety Gemini and Labs team operates at the absolute frontier of technology. We are the stewards tasked with safety for Google's generative AI products and features, ensuring it is developed and deployed with the highest standards of safety and integrity.

In this role, you will not just participate in this mission; you will help lead it, setting the standard for the industry in tackling unprecedented safety challenges at a global scale.

As an Associate Principal, Generative AI, you will be a subject matter expert responsible for architecting our approach to the most complex risks associated with AI. You will go beyond day-to-day analysis and investigations to inform the long-term strategic roadmap for model safety. Your will anticipate future threats, develop novel evaluation paradigms, and influence Google's product and research direction to ensure safety is a foundational, non-negotiable component of our AI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analyses and investigations to implement next-generation safety mitigations.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Policy and Legal to set precedents and create robust, scalable, and defensible principles for new AI capabilities. Inform engineering and research teams in building sophisticated technical solutions, from fine-tuning techniques to classifier-based guardrails.
  • Analyze the evolving AI threat landscape. Identify and forecast future misuse vectors and adversarial techniques, translating these insights into a proactive mitigation agenda.
  • Become the go-to person for issues related to the area of the business and use the domain knowledge to provide partners with insights and analyses.
  • Review or be exposed to sensitive or violative content as part of the core role.
