Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development using Go or similar languages.
- 6 years of experience with compilers, runtime systems, and library implementation.
- 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

In this role, you will ensure Go remains the premier choice for the next generation of software. You will be optimizing Go for AI-powered tools, code generation, and software development life cycle (SDLC) agents. You will enable developers to build sophisticated AI-orchestrated servers and autonomous agents that execute logic safely and efficiently. You will also maintain the security and reliability that Google’s own engineers and millions of external users rely on.
You will work at the intersection of high-performance systems and AI, partnering across Google and the open-source community to expand the ecosystem. You will be passionate about developer productivity and to sustain Go’s leadership in the AI era.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary maintainer of the Go compiler and runtime, performing code reviews and ensuring every contribution from internal teams or the global community upholds Go’s strict standards for clarity and performance.
- Identify and implement compiler optimizations that reduce latency and memory overhead, directly impacting the performance of global-scale production systems and Google’s internal infrastructure.
- Take ownership of the most testing compiler and runtime bugs, utilizing debugging skills to maintain the security, reliability, and 99.9% availability expected by millions of Go developers.
- Translate approved community design documents into production-ready implementations, ensuring that new features or enhancements are integrated seamlessly without compromising the language’s core promise of stability.
- Provide technical leadership during the Go release rotation, overseeing the health of the integration pipeline.
