Software Engineering Manager, Health and Home Infrastructure

  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience with scaffolding.
  • Experience with storage migration.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

The Health and Home Infrastructure team has been responsible for empowering the development and operation of compelling Home experiences with scalable and efficient serving and offline infrastructure, coherent internal developer platforms, easy-to-use APIs, trusted data services, and systems to manage and build user trust. It is now expanding to do the same for supporting the health products in the same manner while both teams are rapidly expanding their usage of AI.

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the other teams to optimize performance, improve reliability and reduce cost of the system powering all the user journeys in Home. 
  • Continue growing the strong engineering culture within the team.
  • Ensure high engineering quality, reliability, and low latency for critical user journeys like doorbell notifications and broadcast features.
  • Work closely with leads in other locations as well as the other Google Home teams.
