Technical Lead Manager, Android

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, and front-end experience including JavaScript, TypeScript, or HTML.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • Experience with the Android operating system, internal frameworks, or the Android developer ecosystem.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience managing a team of Software Engineers, including career development and performance management.
  • Expertise in Google-specific stacks such as Apps Framework, ACE, or Android Identity/OOBE.
  • Familiarity with the kids and families domain, including global regulatory environments (e.g., COPPA, Age of Consent regulations) and their technical implications.
  • Ability to navigate high levels of ambiguity and lead cross-functional collaboration with product, policy, and UX stakeholders to drive long-term technical strategy.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Work in a frontend codebase of Typescript/JavaScript, and Java in the backend.
  • Build front-end feature requests and take a goal and independently to define and execute a development plan.
  • Work well as a team, review teammates’ code, participate in team activities (e.g., bug triage, feature design), mentor and coach others, write documentation, and share your knowledge with the wider engineering organization.
  • Work with cross-functional partners such as UX/UX Researcher (UXR), Product Managers, Engineering Productivity, and Program Management.
