Director, Developing, Applied AI Conversational Agents

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, similar degree/field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in software engineering leadership roles.
  • Experience in conversational agents and generative AI concepts (LLMs, fine tuning, distillation, function calling and orchestration etc.), development workflows, and use cases.
  • Experience in building developer-facing products or platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
  • Experience in applying AI solutions and ML-related technologies to solve real-world AI/ML problems in consumer or enterprise applications.
  • Experience with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar ML frameworks, and MLOps.
  • A deep passion for developer needs, with the ability to translate them into exceptional software tools and experiences.
  • Active participation in the AI/ML open-source community or relevant industry consortia.
  • Software engineering background and fluency in cloud-based development.

About the job

The Applied AI organization within Google Cloud was established to build a broad and deep application portfolio that leverages the power of AI to redefine AI-powered conversations. Customers use our products to build hybrid conversational agents with both deterministic and generative AI functionality, giving them strict controls to use generative AI in a way that better meets their needs.

In this role, you will be responsible for the developer teams developing pre-built and customizable conversational agents, including the roadmap of new applications in areas like customer service and sales and in industries such as telecommunications, healthcare, retail, and financial services. You will be responsible for defining and developing the technical infrastructure and product functionality for these applications, working with multiple Google orgs, customers, and partners. You'll set vision and direction, improve productivity, quality standards, resolve systemic problems, identify trends, and implement change.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $294,000-$414,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Define a visionary roadmap for Google Cloud's Applied AI conversational agents portfolio. Balance innovation, user research, and industry trends to push the boundaries of developer experience.
  • Partner closely with the broader Applied AI and Cloud AI teams, Google developer API team and Dev Hub teams, Cloud AppEco teams, CoreML and Google deepmind teams, and external developer communities to align tool development with real-world use cases and pain points.
  • Maintain an approach to software design, architecture, and coding standards to ensure the highest quality and scalability of our developer tool suite.
  • Represent Google Cloud as an industry leader in generative AI development, contributing to conferences, publications, and open-source initiatives.
  • Attract, mentor, and develop top developing talent, creating a high-performing and motivated team.
