Security Engineer III, Devices and Services

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with security assessments, security design reviews, or threat modeling.
  • 2 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols.
  • Experience coding in one or more computer languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with distributed teams with non-optimal time zone differences as well as security engineers in infrastructure security areas.
  • Experience implementing or contributing to security standards and requirements.
  • Experience with incident response, anomaly detection, or counter-abuse operations/tooling.
  • Experience with large distributed data pipelines and systems, ETL/CDC.

About the job

Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

In this role, you will have to define and develop solutions in areas such as Detection and Response (discovery, signal pipeline technologies), Counter Abuse, Asset Discovery/Management and Security Process Automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and identify security issues and implement security controls, tools, and services to improve security systems and processes.
  • Review infrastructure and service designs through the lens of information security, which may vary between 10-40% of working time week-to-week, as demand dictates.
  • Contribute to software design proposals for the team and scope the level of efforts to set time-bounded goals for teams to agree on and subsequently implement.
  • Review design documents and code to make sure that the team is producing secure solutions per the intended design and goal.
