Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Science, Law, Policy, Economics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience managing projects or supporting the planning and development of business agreements.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in European energy markets, specifically regarding grid tariffs, market design, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working within an energy regulator, or the regulatory unit of an energy supplier, transmission system operator (TSO), distribution system operator (DSO), or energy user.
  • Knowledge of the European energy market design, structure, and stakeholder ecosystem.
  • Ability to grasp technical product aspects, and develop data-driven recommendations and action plans.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. We are a creative team-oriented group of engineers committed to building and operating powerful data centers.

In this role, you will combine your real estate development knowledge with tech industry savvy to ensure we have a healthy portfolio of sites ready for development to support Google's growth. You will work with specific project teams on site development, delivering off-site utility infrastructure, managing relationships with local officials, utilities, and authority having jurisdiction) (AHJ), and presenting portfolio recommendations to our tech leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead evaluations of regulatory and policy environments in Europe at both the EU and national levels, regarding electricity industry trends, stakeholder interests, and electricity institutional structures to assess risks and opportunities for Google’s data center electricity supply portfolio.
  • Support the development of energy positions for Google’s electricity supply needs in established and in new markets, including design of regulatory and market engagement strategies as well as implementing tactics. Work cross-functionally with others on Google’s Global Infrastructure, Public Policy and other teams to develop policy and market positions, and communicate to key constituencies.
  • Support advocacy work with market research and quantified analytics. 
  • Support energy supply discussions, working closely with site and energy strategic negotiators.
